We start off August with the Sun and Venus in the sign of Leo. Leo is a fixed fire sign, and in terms of the seasons this time is considered the midsummer, when the days typically reach their peak temperature wise, our internal fire is also being heightened. Leo is ruled by the Sun, and when we think of the Sun it is the heart of our solar system, everything revolves around it therefore Leo also relates physically to our hearts as well as the central theme or passion(s) of our lives.
We may find that a lot of our focus this month revolves around what makes us feel joyful and alive, and if we aren't feeling that so much, what can we do to enjoy our lives more? Mercury will be going into retrograde in the sign of Virgo on the 5th and I know that just mentioning that transit can be a trigger for some, but Mercury retrograde offers us a grace period, an opportunity to slow down and to become really clear on what it is that we want. Because the start of this coincides with a new moon, we get to set our intentions and then deconstruct and carefully review those intentions.
We are being asked to look at what we do on a daily basis and if we are living in alignment with our truth, and our passion. How can we expand our capacity to experience joy? Do we allow ourselves to play? We are being urged to step out of the confinements that have been placed around us and our joyful expressions, to allow ourselves to celebrate and rejoice in being ourselves. To support us in remembering that we can do more of what we love, for the sake of doing so without needing to be "productive". Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is to express yourself even if it doesn't make logical sense. Sometimes the act of expression itself frees up space for you to actually accomplish more. Sometimes dropping everything to play opens us up to more creative insight and inspiration.
This retrograde will also be exactly conjunct with the Full moon in Aquarius on the 19th, which will give us some major insights into the questions and reflections we may ponder earlier in the month. The 22nd will mark the beginning of Virgo season, and we can take these insights about what lights us up and begin to discern how we can truly integrate them.
Mercury will be stationing direct on the 28th in the sign of Leo, and by this point hopefully we will have freed up some space to really dig in and enjoy the days to come. Venus will enter into Libra, its home sign by the end of the month on the 29th. This is an important transit this year, considering the South Node is in Libra, so this time period will be pivotal for looking at, and letting go of outdated relationship dynamics that were rooted in worn out ways of thinking, perhaps even inherited but we will go further into that in next month’s astrology update.
